I am thrilled to welcome Author, Joanie Bruce to my blog today. We will be diving into three mystery, suspenseful books, so I know you’ll enjoy what’s below!
How can Murder be for the Time Being?? That’s a good question, and believe it or not, it’s answered twice in my new book “Murder for the Time Being.”
Hey, I’m Joanie Bruce, and I’m happy to be a guest on Marlena’s blog page today and tell you a little about myself and my books.
As an avid reader, I’ve always had a thirst for writing a book of my own, but it wasn’t until my children were grown that I sat in front of a computer with writing a book in mind.
Reading my first Christian suspense book ignited a tiny flame of desire in my heart to write those type of books, but I was afraid my words wouldn’t be scary enough to keep the reader turning pages. So … I sat down to see if I could make-up a scene about a woman drowning in a submerged car in a lake. While trying to feel the same emotions the woman might be feeling, I literally scared myself to death and had to get up from the computer. I stood there with my heart pounding and laughed out loud. “I think I can do this,” I told myself. And that’s when my first book was born. That drowning scene started my first novel, “Alana Candler, Marked for Murder” which won an award in an International Award Competition with Reader’s Favorite.
My husband and I own a Black Angus cattle farm outside of Madison, Georgia where we raised our three children. I’ve always tried to use my talents and abilities for the Lord’s honor and glory with the understanding that He is the one who gave them to me. I’m so grateful for the opportunities He has provided to use those talents for Him. I’m also an artist, so I enjoy painting oil portraits, illustrating a children’s book, writing suspense books, taking long walks, and of course reading here in our country home. If you would like to read more about my books and my art, please visit my website or one of my social media sites. I always enjoy meeting new friends.
Thank you for visiting with me today, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Book #1: Alana Candler, Marked for Murder
Alana Candler is on someone’s hit list. But why? A stalker is breathing down her neck at every turn, hiding in the shadows, waiting for her to make a mistake … to freeze long enough for him to make his hit. When the stalker kidnaps her from a hotel and leaves her to die, Jaydn Holbrook, CEO and owner of the largest company in Tennessee, saves her life and promises to protect her. Jaydn’s high school friendship with Brad, Alana’s brother and the City’s Police Chief, gives him incentive to protect Alana and shelter her from the growing danger. Alana’s trust in God’s protection intrigues him and compels him to explore her faith further, but when she mentions her aversion to rich, executive-type bosses, Jaydn keeps his position at his company secret trying not to destroy their fragile bond. As tensions build, Jaydn and Alana are caught up in a dangerous web of hiding from the pursuer trying to kill them and fighting the attraction they feel for each other. While Brad scrambles to find her stalker and Jaydn struggles to keep her safe, Alana searches her memory to find the motive someone might have for murder.
Book #2: A Memory Worth Dying For
“Do Not Return to Texas!” Marti Rushing gets the message, loud and clear. If she returns to Texas, her life is in danger. If she stays in Tennessee, she is safe. But when she receives a letter telling her that Daniel, her ex-husband and the love of her life, is dying, she knows she has to defy the stalker and return to Texas to see him. Three years ago, Daniel accused her of things she couldn’t remember doing. Without waiting for an explanation and after four wonderful years of marriage, Daniel kicks her off of his family’s Quarter Horse ranch. Now, three years after their separation, he walks into her art reception in Tennessee and acts like he doesn’t remember her. Does the memory loss have anything to do with the letter she received, or is Daniel pretending? Is he the one stalking her, or is it someone with a deadly, sinister motive? Ignoring the deadly warnings, she leaves for Texas, but on the way there, the attempts on her life begin. Will she be able to evade her pursuer’s attacks? Or will Daniel’s face be the last one she sees?
Book #3: Murder for the Time Being
“You’ll pay for this. I’ll get you both.” Computer expert Lexi Wynn is frightened. Someone is after her, but she doesn’t know why. Is it because of her past or because she was thrust into a deadly bank robbery and might identify the ones responsible? Escaping a failed kidnapping attempt and not sure who to trust, she hopes her specialized skills with computers might flush out the name of the killer. When a tall, dark, and handsome stranger rams into her truck with the hearse he’s driving and puts his life in danger to save hers, can she ignore the attraction she feels for him to concentrate on the killers? Or is God the only one who can save her now?
Drew Sheffield is irritated when a cute lady stops abruptly in front of him and he plows into the back of her pickup. After their initial confrontation, flashbacks of honeysuckle and sassy green eyes linger in his thoughts. When Lexi is threatened, he steps in to help the feisty young woman, in spite of agonizing over a past relationship.
Can Lexi and Drew forget the tragedies of the past and embrace the feelings between them or will ghostly memories snub out the promise of a future together?
After writing simple picture books for children and mysteries for teens, Joanie found that her passion for writing exploded when she started working in suspense fiction. As an avid reader, she welcomed the transition from reading to writing and considered it a wonderful new experience to please others with her words instead of visual means.
As an artist, Joanie’s primary goal is to achieve a strong likeness of her subject, while portraying it in the most complementary setting. Her greatest joy is realized in providing her customers with a cherished reminder of someone or something very dear to them – a work that will stand the test of time.
With a specialty in portraiture, Joanie Bruce uses such media as oils, acrylics, pastel, graphite, charcoal, and clay to create commissioned pieces as well as creative landscapes, animals, and still life using a realistic approach to art. Her body of work includes over 100 commissioned portraits in various media as well as numerous landscapes and is found in private homes as well as corporate offices.
